IMPERIAL RED RIDING HOOD

AN IMPERIAL RED ALE OF STRENGTH AND COURAGE

The Little Red Riding Hood grew up and took care of the wolf herself. We honor her strength and courage with an equally strong Imperial Red Ale. The blood red color is inspired by the fruity Strong Ale from the British islands. The taste is powerful and malty but with a brave twist of the American hop varieties Amarillo, Cascade and Citra. Together with German Perle and Czech Saazer they give this Little Red Riding Hood tribute an aroma of citrus, melon and grapefruit.

Malt: Pilsner, Cara plus 150, Melanoidin
Hops: Saazer, Perle, Amarillo, Cascade, Citra
Alcohol: 7,7% Vol.

TAIL OF A WHALE

THE TAIL OF A WHALE

AN ELIXIR OF INSANITY

After fourteen days and fourteen nights of captivity on his own ship, our brewmaster slowly lost his sanity like a mythical whale descending in the deep. First came confusion, followed by creeping paranoia and lastly, utter madness. In his delirious state of mind he began mixing the beer styles he had sworn to uphold like commandments cut in stone.

When we finally came to his rescue it was already too late. In the fermentation tank brewed a monstrous potion, an unholy blend of wheat beer and ale.

The Tail of a Whale is brewed like a German wheat beer with over 55% wheat malt. It has a characteristically light body and fresh taste – just like a traditional wheat beer – but by fermenting with a Scottish ale yeast and dryhopping with Citra, the brew acquires a fantastic aroma and fruitiness. The combination results in a crisp malt body from the wheat beer with the fruitiness of an ale. The fresh hop aroma gives the beer a distinctive character.

Color: Summer sun yellow and opalescent.
Scent: Fresh floral hop aroma with clear tones of citrus and grapefruit.
Taste: Aromatically hoppy with a light, balansed maltiness and a relatively low and pleasant bitterness.
Malt: Wheat, Pilsner and light caramel.
Hops: Magnum and Citra.
Original gravity P: 12,0
Alcohol % by volume: 4,8
Residual sugar wt %: 3,3

The Last IPA lost beneath the sea

An epic adventure only on tap

One day at Brutal Brewing we talked about IPA´s. Everyone had their opinions about how a good IPA would taste – a bit like in real life actually. Suddenly it occurred to us, we make our interpretation of an IPA.

Said and done. We went far into the big dark malt warehouse and when we came out into the light we brought five different malts with us. In to the next warehouse where we picked up six varieties of hops. The hops were added at different times during the brewing process – in cooking, during the fermentation, twice in the storage tank and finally through our Hop Rocket.

The beer was first presented at The Beer & Whisky festivals in Gothenburg, Malmoe and Stockholm in 2013 and immediately became very popular. Now is your chance to try it. Hope you like it.

The color is dark reddish brown, the taste is very aromatic with a balanced maltiness and marked bitterness.

Malt: Pilsener, Dark caramel, melanoidin, Munchener and Crystal.
Hops: Magnum, Cascade, Galaxy, Amarillo, Fuggles and Mosaic.

Hale to winter
And to the darkness it brings

Winter´s not like other seasons.
Its vibe is way cooler and darker in its own weird way. Tongues stick to frozen flagpoles.

break from skiing accidents. But they heal. Eventually. So, hurray.
Enjoy the short, dark days before the snow melts away.

Introducing Dia de los Muertos:

It’s more than just the life of the party.

Ola, Muchachos. As proof that the best things in life can even be celebrated with the afterlife, it’s time to pay tribute to a tradition first observed by the Aztec civilization centuries ago.

Our latest edition to the Brutal Brewing family is a pale amber lager that honors Dia de Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead for those of us living north of Mexico way, in a unique, bottom-fermented kind of way. The exact brewing technique would take a precious week out of your life to fully observe, and it’s kind of a big secret, so you’ll just have to trust us that the extra effort we put into making Dia de los Muertos is well worth it. Or, better yet, ask for a mug and decide for yourself.

With strong, clear hints of grapefruit and citrus that are the essence of American Cascade and Centennial Zither hops, Dia de los Muertos is accentuated by Magnum and German Perle hops that contribute to a markedly bitter, yet distinctively satisfying finish. And we haven’t even begun to tell you what the Pilsner, Dark Caramel, Crystal and Melanoidin malts add to the mix because, well, life’s short and this description’s already getting too long.

In other words, (and an attempt to bridge cultures and transport positive vibes from the living to the dead) Dia de los Muertos is a mucho good, numero uno brew that you shouldn’t wait until it’s too late to enjoy.

Alcohol: 6.0% by volume. Available from September 2, 2013 for a limited time on draft in approximately 100 selected bars and restaurants throughout Sweden. See the map for one or several near you.

Welcome to

the world of Pistonhead

A world filled with barley malt, water and hops. And Calavera skulls, of course.
That’s about it, really. Don’t overthink it. We haven’t.

PISTONHEAD CRUDE OIL 30% VOL 2CL

CRUDE OIL – TOUGH AND STRONG

Crude Oil. It´s unrefined.
But that doesn’t mean it’s undeserving of your attention. So let’s get one thing straight, right off the top. This is not a beer. This is something completely different than a beer.
So, well, like, um, well, here it is.

Pistonhead Crude Oil is a 30% volume licorice shot with a bit of chili. Loads of it, in fact.
It’s not exactly what you´d call smooth. Be that as it may, we couldn´t be more proud of it. We had fun developing Crude Oil. And because of the chili, it is a real kick in the groin. We´ll see how long it lingers.

OUR

OTHER BREWS

We truly believe that beer should be fun. It is a craft. Some may go as far to call it an art. It is not, however, politics. It will not change the world. We are dead serious about our brews, but not serious about much of anything else. We hope all of our brews reflect our state of mind.

HALE TO NOTHING ECO ALE

RELAX AND ENJOY NOTHING IN PARTICULAR

Think about it. If nothing wasn’t here to keep things apart, everything would be one big, stressful, balled up, messy thing. Probably boring, too. Which is why pausing to enjoy nothing is a very good thing. With Hale to Nothing, of course.

There’s nothing artificial or phony in it. Only good stuff.
Like organic malted barley and hops that give this ale its own, individual refreshing taste.
 We think that’s something special.

We use ecological Pilsener and Münchener malt blended with ecological Perle, Centennial and Fuggles hops. Hale to Nothing is somewhat malty and well-balanced, with a flavorful taste and slight hint of citrus.

SIR_TASTE_ALOT

SIR TASTE-A-LOT

PREPARE TO BE ENRICHED

When sorting through the 3,5% volume beers on the shelves at our local supermarket, we realized something highly significant. The interesting brews were sold in dusty glass bottles that were in some cases even more expensive than the same products at Systembolaget.

Well, the light bulb went on over our heads and we decided that something had to be done about this unfortunate set of circumstances – post-haste. We immediately set out on a journey to make a 3,5% that made us, well, there’s no other good way to put it – Jive.

Numerous test brews later, we are proud to present Sir Taste-A-Lot, a 3,5% lager beer that actually lives up to its fancy-schmancy name. Sir Taste-A-Lot is unique for the Swedish retail market. It is a full-bodied, dry-hopped super lager that comes in a smart 50 cl can.

For hops, we use Magnum for a taste of bitterness. And for a citrusy and flowery edge, Perle and rare Amarillo hops are added in. So now you can drink really good lager beer that doesn’t cost a fortune. And it will never gather dust on a shelf.

Because that would be beneath its lofty name.

Available at ICA, Axfood and Coops throughout Sweden.

THE LIMITED EDITIONS

AND OTHER FUN STUFF

Our limited editions and seasonal brews are labors of love. They are small batches, strange brews and experiments that we like to share and test. Whether you like them a little, love them a lot, or utterly and completely despise them, please send us your feedback.

FRUIT MONKEY APA 8-BIT BREW

PUT DOWN YOUR JOYSTICK

It was during the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2012 that Brutal Brewing presented several brews, including one whose old school likeness and sense of taste provided a cool blast from the past.

Meet Fruit Monkey APA, a two-fisted tribute to American Pale Ale and the 8-bit video games that rocked our socks off when we were way more interested in reaching the next level on our console than wrapping our hand around a cold fermented beverage.

The brew and the pixelated monkey graphic were such a hit that we promised to offer a wider audience the opportunity to enjoy after the annual festival was finished. With that said, here is our highly appreciated dry and hoppy King of Kongs; Fruit Monkey APA.

This crowd pleaser is available in selected pubs throughout Sweden for a limited time starting in the middle of February, 2013.

A note for monkey-loving people who want a bit more detail:

Hops: Magnum, Cittra, Summer-Saaz, Simcoe and Amarillo.

 Dry hopped during fermentation.

Beervana

BEERVANA

LA LA LA LA LA LA LA FEELING GROOVY

A new, limited edition summer beer from Brutal Brewing.
This time, the search for the existential truth of craft beer has been the labor of our united love.

Our team, speaking in perfect harmony, says:
Over the past year, we’ve brought many new products to market. We’ve fussed over the brewing. We’ve sampled, tasted, tested and fiddled with the recipes. We’ve stressed over the details of the packaging designs.

Like, wow, man, we’ve been so busy with our daily attempts to keep all of our customers in a constant state of bliss, we’ve had little time to contemplate the true essence of our efforts.

At times along the way, we’ve asked ourselves, “What if our aim is laughable?” “What does it all really mean?” “Have all those long hours in the brewery been for nothing?”
So many questions. Precious few, if any, good answers. Finally, we had a few moments to catch our breaths, sit down and ponder what makes us happy about beer, and how beer makes life worth living. We all came up with different answers. But all had a single, common core thought.

We all wanted to gain insight into the essential things that are true to our collective nature. We wanted to understand how groovy Beervana really could be. How Beervana tasted. What Beervana looked like.

Our brewmaster chimes in:
We wanted Beervana to be a light brew with a slightly lower alcohol content. A beer that slips effortlessly into summer. A lager with a pleasant bitterness, and thanks to Galaxy hops from Australia, a hint of clear grapefruit that lingers on the lips.

Beervana is an accessible beer. It’s here for you, man. A beer for sun, croquet, harmonious gatherings and intimate, meaningful conversations between people. Beervana. A name spelled out in big, pillowy soft, plump round letters – without a strict, tightly wound sans serifs font in sight.

We now know that our quest is over. We found the object of our desires. We have finally reached true Beervana.

Ohhmm, Ohhmm, Ohhmm.

4,5% VOL 33 CL CAN

First available in 2012, Beervana will be at Systembolaget again in 33 cl cans from May 2, 2013. Art no: 11499-15

It was also offered in 37 pubs and restaurants from May to August 2012 and plans are underway to have it on tap again this year. Stay on our wavelength for more groovy news.

THE GEEK

MINDS MATTER WHEN BEER IS BREWED

At our first appearance at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky festival, four of our master brewers competed head-of-foam to head-of-foam in a shootout with their own “best home brew”. Over 600 beer nerds voted for their favorite. It was a fair fight to be sure. But in the end, our Chief Brewmaster Richard Bengtsson was victorious with his amber lager “It Ain’t Over Until The Big Brewmaster Sings”.

This brew delivers a hop bonanza and a bittersweet finish. Be that as it may, we must also apologize. We couldn’t stop ourselves from changing the name to something shorter, more to the point. So, welcome (drum-roll, please) the Geek. It was available in just 20 pubs and restaurants from February to March 2012. If you missed it, you missed out. Sorry.

Note for Geeks:
Barley: Pilsener, Weat, Dark Caramel and Melanoidin. Hops: Perle, Nelson Sauvin, Citra and Amarillo.
